Trinity River Audubon Center

https://trinityriver.audubon.org

Located just ten miles south of downtown Dallas, the Trinity River Audubon Center serves as your gateway to explore the remarkable resources of the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest. Being the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States, this forest sustains a diverse community of plant and animal species, featuring a unique blend of bottomland hardwoods, wetlands, and grasslands. As a component of the City of Dallas-Trinity River Corridor Project, the center’s 120 acres occupy a former illegal dump site, now transformed into a reclaimed sanctuary for a wide range of birds and other wildlife amidst an increasingly urbanized metropolitan area. Covering a distance of five miles, trails lead visitors through hardwood forests, ponds, wetlands, and prairie ecosystems, following the path of the Trinity River.

Dog Wood Audobon

What are we here for?” or even “Is there a God?” Unanswerable, I believe, by logic alone. From the outset, birds have directed our gaze upwards, illustrating that we are not confined by the limitations of gravity and that flight transcends boundaries. It can hover and soar, dive and display, and transport us from one end of the planet to the other in a single, seemingly impossible burst of energy and purpose. Inspiration is the enduring gift birds have bestowed upon us. Yet now, they pose a question as well. Similar to the canary in the mine, birds mirror the state of our planet, raising a profound question: “Can you not see that if we disappear, you will soon follow?” This query, voiced by birds, holds considerable significance.
